Spirit

You are… new. Or so it would seem, at least. You have no memories, and only the merest shred of a personality. And now you are awake, here. Wherever 'here' is.

There are others like you in this place: you can sense their presence. You cannot see them, as such - sight seems not to be a meaningful perception here - but you can talk, and listen to what they have to say.

All existence has meaning. Perhaps, together, you can work out what yours is.

Introduction

Spirit is a forum-based roleplaying game, taking after the recent trend of unofficial summer forum games in the Oxford University Roleplaying Game Society (in turn inspired by the official, live, term-time Society Games). Players take on the roles of characters who have almost no idea of who, where, or what they are; contrary to previous games, there is almost no prior setting knowledge needed to start playing. The game is open to anyone from veteran roleplayers to those who have never played a society game before, although we do ask that players abide by the terms of the Conduct and Themes page.

Details

Spirit begins at midnight on Saturday 16th June 2018, and is expected to run for 14 weeks, finishing shortly before Michaelmas Term starts. Play will take place entirely online - primarily on a forum, but also via emails and turnsheets. The game is designed with the aim of letting players feel free to interact as much or as little as they like, and anyone is welcome to join the game as late into proceedings as they wish. You don't need any roleplaying experience to take part in Spirit, although you may wish to check the Glossary for any terms you're unfamiliar with.

Gameplay will occur over a series of turns, alternating between one week of 'uptime' and one week of 'downtime'. During uptime, you will be able to post on the forums and send emails as your character, in order to share information, partake in or observe Experiences, and plan what to do next. At the end of each uptime, you will be able to submit a turnsheet, consisting of your plans for the coming downtime. The turnsheet deadline is 23:59pm on the Saturday at the end of each uptime - any received after the deadline are unlikely to be processed. The GMs will then judge the results of your turnsheet over the downtime week, and report back to you on how everything went.

Before you submit a character, you may wish to check the pages listed on the contents bar to the left. Once you feel ready, head over to Character Creation to find out how to submit a character. Please do not create an account on the forums until your character has been approved.

If you have any questions for the GM team, please feel free to get in touch at gm@spirit.chaosdeathfish.com - we'll try to get back to you as soon as possible.
